Webcast
on Adolescent Literacy Programs
What
type of adolescent literacy program can schools implement to reverse
today's adolescent literacy crisis?
On
May 18, 2005, Education Development Center, Inc. (the organization
hosting Literacy Matters) addressed this problem by presenting
an hour-long Webcast for state and district level literacy leaders
across the New England region. The New England Comprehensive Assistance
Center hosted the Webcast. The presenters were Dr.
Judith Zorfass, Dr. Andrea Kotula,
and Ms.
Joan Dunfey.
The
purpose of the Webcast was to provide basic information to administrators,
coordinators, and teachers so that they could design and/or select
an adolescent literacy program to meet the needs of students with
diverse abilities and needs. The presenters identified core literacy
goals for all students, examined key elements of an effective
literacy program, and provided guidelines for selecting an effective
literacy program.
