Do
you have a child in middle school or high school who is
having difficulty with reading and writing? Are these difficulties
having an impact on performance? Do you want guidance for
offering help at home? If so, welcome to Literacy Matters.
There are three routes you can follow to get started.
First,
we are offering students an opportunity to engage in an
online learning activities called Help
Lee Decide and What Should
Maria Do? You might want to encourage your child to
participate. The purpose of these "tutorials"
is to help students improve their skills in comparing and
contrasting, a key strategy that is needed across all content
areas. The directions allow students to be self-directed
learners. There are also special directions for parents.
Second,
we invite you to take advantage of all the information we
have provided in the section From School
to Home. Many of the ideas, strategies, and teaching
suggestions can easily be implemented in the home.
Third,
we are providing you with links to Good
Ideas for middle school parents on helping your child
with reading.
Please
revisit us often since we update the web site regularly.
