Learning About the Internet

Many people confuse the Internet with the Web, often using the two terms synonymously. While these two media are woven together significantly, the World Wide Web (otherwise known as the Web) is merely one component (albeit a very prominent component) of the Internet. The Internet is a broad network of computers around the world. Web pages—individual pages found on the Internet—are connected to one another through hypertext and hyperlinks. The Web is a collection of all of the web pages and web sites connected together.

With so much information available on the Internet and the Web, teachers are left wondering, "How do I go about using the Internet in my classroom? How do I find all of the wonderful resources I've been hearing about? How can I get up to speed so that I can explain the basic terminology to my students?"

This section contains information and links to sites that can help teachers learn how to navigate the Internet and Web, while also developing a solid knowledge base of key Internet terminology.
